Deceased Alleged Father
If the Alleged Father is not available, we may be able to establish paternity by use of samples which may have been obtained prior to the Alleged Fathers death. Often-times, the Coroner or Medical Examiner will retain tissue and/or blood samples for several years which may then be used for DNA testing.
In these cases, it is the client's responsibility to determine where the samples are located and provide Health-Link with the Contact Information.
If a sample is available, we will contact the facility to coordinate having the sample sent directly to our lab. Once samples are received, a Viability Test will need to be performed to determine whether or not a valid DNA sample exist. The viability test typically cost $150.00 and takes approximately 2 weeks. Once the viability test is complete, if a viability sample does exist then testing will usually be completed within 48 hours of completion of the viability test. If there is not a viable sample, the testing process will stop there with no further charges. If no viable sample is available directly from the Alleged Father, then other options are available to establish paternity e.g. Grandparentagr and siblingship.
