DNA Parental and Parentage Blood Testing

DNA blood testing is usually performed for parentage testing in order to identify a child’s mother and/or father. Since each of the human body’s cells contain a complete sample of DNA, non-invasive and painless buccal swabs can also be used to obtain DNA samples. Health-Link uses buccal swab collection for most of our DNA parentage testing which is done by rubbing a special material tipped swab against the inside cheek. As effective as parental DNA blood testing, the buccal swab helps to avoid DNA complications such as those caused by blood transfusions and bone marrow transplants which can cause the donor’s DNA to be introduced into the bloodstream.
Loose cheek cells collect on the swab that are then extracted, purified and sent to a lab for testing. We then send the swabs in to our parental DNA testing laboratory in a tamper-evident sealed package which our staff double-checks and records in our database. After the complete set of samples to be tested is collected, the DNA test is performed using our Dual Process™ procedure which divides each sample into two. Then each divided sample is tested by two independent teams of lab technicians so that correct preparation of the results is assured. Finally, the latest parentage testing DNA testing science is employed to generate a DNA profile for each party which is analyzed for the probability of paternity. If the sample produces an exclusion the probability is 0%, and if a biological relationship between the parent and child is confirmed the results will be a probability of 99.9% and above.
As well as DNA parentage blood testing and buccal swab collection, tissue samples can be collected from deceased individuals to be used for testing. In the case of a paternity test where a father is missing or unavailable, Health-Link can perform a viability test that looks for usable DNA in unusual samples such as preserved blood, hair, and other body tissues. In order to assess the possibility of using these kinds of samples for parental DNA testing, give us a call at our toll free number and one of our helpful consultants will gather from you the specific information we need in order to proceed with viability testing of the sample. Our nation and world-wide collection site locations can provide you with convenient appointments in your local community. We can schedule group or separate individual appointments even if the parties live in different states. Depending upon the state in which you reside, the requirements for legally admissible DNA test results vary. Whether you need DNA testing in Denver or Atlanta DNA paternity testing check out our web site for information on your area.
